Nic's 1958 Split screen - shabby chic!
Nic had this bus imported from Texas in 2004 after seeing it for sale on Samba.com. It was delivered to Mike's garage where it was mounted on a roller. He replaced all the out riggers and jacking points, inner and outer seals on nearside and offside and the lower half of the front panel. Nic then fitted a full Creative Engineering IRS system with adjustable spring plates and a 1302 gearbox. He contacted Boxwagen in Poole and purchased a complete Porsche stud pattern disc brake set up with Wilwood four pot front callipers. Boxwagen also supplied him with a four inch narrowed front beam.
Nic found a set of Porsche 944 wheels (8 inch rears and 7 inch front) at Slough Swap meet. He had intended to have the bus running in time for Spa 2005, but after things took longer than he had anticipated a new deadline was set for Run to the Sun 2006. Plans for the bus now revolve around a ridiculously huge engine, with all the 'stop' it has it needs a lot of 'go' to make it worth while!
